Bicycle culture
One of the things I like about the Netherlands is that we ride bicycles, everyone does! Not just the lower class, or sports enthusiasts, or hipsters with their fixies.

This is our prime minister Rutte with Stef Bos (another politician) riding home from work.

This is Prince Willem Alexander (heir to the throne) and his wife Princess Maxima.
Queen Beatrix and her sister Princess Irene going to school when they were teenagers.

A guy moving a mattress
Although I have a driver’s license, I do not have a car. I use my bicycle and public transport. I can borrow my parents car but I haven’t done that much as I’ve found I don’t really need a car most of the time.
I realise that some of the stuff we do, like for example the guy moving the mattress on a bicyle, might seem odd to you. But I’ve done things like moving mattresses on bicycles, or cycling in heels (which seems to freak foreigners out). Hell, we had a prom like thing at secondary school. Guess what? I wore a floor lenght dress and heels, and went on my bicycle. (My parents did offer to just bring me but that wasn’t cool or something. We didn’t do like ‘dates’ who brought corsages and rented cars and stuff at my school. A lot of people cycled to the party.)
There isn’t a point to this post.. just, I like our bicycles <3
Also check this page out if you like to see what we ‘crazy Dutch people’ get up to cycling-wise.
