I own too much stuff
Seriously..
I might roll my eyes at Alex Day’s minimalism, but I could learn a thing or two from him.
His approach might be quite extreme but having to pack all my stuff for moving house makes me realise how much stuff I have that just sits there and does nothing.
Example: the big ass folders containing all the drawings I did at art school. I’m talking like size A0 for some of them. I quit art school.. but should I keep those drawings or not? I never look at them now cause to be quite honest it brings up quite negative feelings cause I still don’t quite know how to feel about the fact that I gave up art school. But on the other hand I have done that bit of art school and if I threw it out I would have nothing to show for it? I dunno if I like that. The same goes for all my sketch books.
Then there’s the make up/hair stuff. I used to be really into make up things years ago, so I have quite a lot (though I already threw a lot out that was perishable) and hair stuff…. damn I have a lot of that. I’ve been having a no buy for hair products for months. I’m just gonna have to finish it all before I buy something new. The problem: the products I have last a lifetime. You need very little product each time which is good for your wallet but bad for your shelf space.
Anyway, I don’t have time to dwell on this as I need to get everything packed up cause I’m moving in like a couple days and I need to clean two houses in the mean time too, so yeah. And of course work as usual during the day.
This move is very tiring. I’m very excited to be living with Sam soon, and in Amsterdam of all places, but I also wouldn’t want to leave this place if I didn’t have to. I mean, I’m living under one roof with my three best friends who I’ve known since I was 4 years old. This is something that will probably never again happen in my lifetime.
HG: Everything’s going to change now, isn’t it?
HP: Yes.
