this is a bicycle parking garage

Is this the one by the Amsterdam Train Station? Because if it is, I’ve been there. And it looks just like it.

yeah, Amsterdam

look at all those bikes omg

This is not an exception in the Netherlands, here in the Hague we have bicycle parking garages too. And also an underground ones.  Actually, I think pretty much anywhere (except for the countryside) has things like this, especially around stations.

I was just thinking about this today. I am turning 22 in a few weeks and while I do have a driver’s license, I don’t have a car. My parents have one, which I could borrow if I needed to, but I don’t ever need to. I just bike or use public transport. I can’t even remember the last time I used the car, months ago, probably.

I do everything on my bike. I moved most of my stuff when moving out using my bike (basically everything except big bulky things like beds and stuff ;D)..  Back in secondary school I even went to prom on my bicycle in a floor length dress!

But yeah, to me those things are just not… exceptional. I know they are for foreigners, but not to me. Similarly when I see people on here from other countries talking about their bikes I find that they talk about maintenance and stuff which is pretty much a foreign concept to me ;) I bought my bike second hand 5 years ago and have never done any maintenance besides patching up the tire when it went flat. And I think my dad once put new inner tire thingies on it. That’s it. Seriously. I also see my bike purely as transportation. It’s not that I don’t enjoy it, it’s just that I wouldn’t go riding my bike without having a destination. I mean, why the fuck would I do that? I think having a bike is a necessity here, while in some countries like the US only people who really love it get one and use it.
